Orientation Sessions - Monday 27th February - Thursday 2nd March 2017

There are numerous practical skills and administrative procedures related to studying with the School of Public Health (SPH) that all students need to know. To tell you about them, we have organised a program of training before Semester 1 starts. This program will give you a flying start in your studies with us.

We strongly recommend that all new students attend one of each of the four training sessions. Please note: Training is ONLY available during this day. It is unlikely these sessions will be repeated at a later stage in the Semester.

Learning Online: All SPH units of study have their own eLearning site – so you will need to know how to access the sites (logins and passwords) and navigate through them, access online resources, contribute to discussion boards, complete online quizzes and submit assessment tasks via the e-learning site. Strongly recommended if you have little experience with online study.

Using the Library – strongly recommended if you are not familiar with the University’s library system, using the online catalogue, borrowing and renewing, document delivery and accessing reserve items.

Literature searching – strongly recommended if you have never used Medline or you are not familiar with the range of databases available and online search techniques – vital knowledge for any SPH student.

Assessments, extensions and academic honesty – strongly recommended. This session will cover assessment requirements, how to submit, how to reference, what to do if you can't submit your assignment on time, what we mean by academic honesty and how to ensure your assignments comply with academic honesty requirements. It will also cover important issues around enrolment and being a student at the School.

IMPORTANT:  IF YOU REGISTER FOR A SESSION AND THEN FIND YOU CAN NO LONGER ATTEND, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL OFFICE FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING VIA EMAIL (sph.enquiries@sydney.edu.au) SO THAT WE CAN REMOVE YOU FROM THE SESSION AND OPEN IT UP FOR ANOTHER STUDENT TO ATTEND.
